"The Red Moon cruise experience fully reflects Scott and Mary's extensive skills, expertise, and passion for a superb client experience.The cruise we took was around Mull in May 2024. We had booked it in June 2023, and we were fully consulted about our food preferences and our ambitions for our 6 day trip. Every aspect of what we wanted was exceeded from the superb food to the wildlife that Scott so diligently spotted. Nothing was too much trouble and we experienced the cruise of a lifetime!
What we had not expected was the luxury of the bed, the quality of the shower, the personal touches, the great company and the glorious heritage of the beautiful Red Moon.
We were blessed on our trip with warm, clear days and calm waters, which meant that the magnificence of the Highland scenery was constantly on view. We collected the most wonderful pictures of blue skies and azure seas with towering backdrops of rhododendron and gorse covered mountains.
We don't know whether the weather made our trip any more special, because every aspect was perfect. We had wanted to see wildlife, and we did. Glimpses of dolphins, schools of porpoises, sleek Minke whales, great northern divers, sea eagles, wild goats, red deer, shelducks with chick's, and, of course, puffins (but up very, very close).
Around Mull, there are a variety of beautiful stopovers, whether sea lochs, mini estuaries or berthed off Tobermory and Iona. There was variety in every day, with unexpected events and simple pleasures in every hour. Everywhere we stopped, and everything we chose to do was discussed and agreed the day before. Scott skilfully navigated so the timings and locations for our meals and adventures on shore (including regular runs and walks) worked for us. He even let us take the helm, although with nothing like his experienced seacraft.
We felt that this very special trip for our 30th anniversary was designed around us, not a repetition of others.
Finally the food needs an extra special mention. To have 3 delicious and beautifully presented meals with the finest local ingredients each day was wonderful. Lobster main and scallops canapes on our first night set off our culinary journey with Mary sharing her ideas and recipes willingly.
This was truly a wonderful experience and tremendous value for money."
Exploring home waters
"We were looked after incredibly well onboard this beautifully kept charming boat. Mary and Scott are very professional and we felt 100% safe throughout our trip. We had a bit of a wish-list of places we would like to see and they couldn't have been more accommodating. In addition they introduced us to a couple of places we had not thought of, and these have now become imprinted in our consciousness as forever special... The atmosphere onboard was friendly and relaxed and though they both had much to do, they never seemed rushed. Mary produced meals, morning, noon and night, that we will also remember for a long, long time. To say she is an outstanding chef is an understatement. For us: five days out of heaven. "

From Lakes to Lochs

Go on a trip on Red Moon if you want to enjoy Scottish nature at its best and being very well looked after by your hosts. Mary and Scott are formidable hosts. Being Swiss (we were the first Swiss guests on Red Moon) we are very much surrounded by stunning scenery at home. However it is so very different on the west coast of Scotland. We were even able to watch sea eagles and were escorted by bottlenose dolphins. And seals galore!
About food? Just perfect. Before the cruise we let Mary know that we like seafood, lamb (even Haggis) and that we prefer regional cheese to sweets. Mary served each evening a cheeseboard after dinner, adorned with Scottish cheeses. On the last evening we were even treated to Haggis, neeps and tatties. The most relaxing holidays ever. Go and find out by yourself."

"We loved the whole Red Moon experience and it surpassed our expectations. Where do we start? Red Moon is a comfortable and beautifully refurbished cruiser with a personal touch. We immediately relaxed and fell into the rhythm of our Red Moon adventure.
In your experienced and competent hands we felt secure and very much at ease. With Scott’s expert seamanship and guidance we always felt our safety and comfort was top of the agenda. Options for overnight anchorages and daily visits/walks were provided. This made the agenda feel personal and tailored to our preferences. Our appetites and dietary preferences were looked after by Mary’s exceptional catering. The varied menu which included breakfast, lunch and dinner was beautifully presented and delicious. Five Star ! The trip opened our eyes to the natural beauty of the North West, Skye and The Small Isles. Fortunately we found the perfect way to experience its beauty in the most comfortable and welcoming way. cannot recommend Red Moon highly enough. Fantastic views of the scenery around Mull or Skye and sneaking into quiet anchorages for a walk (if you want) before an excellent meal

so you should have no concerns if you are worried about your sea legs. However, beware, it's very addictive, we are already looking forward to our fourth trip which will be next

First Mull cruise
"My husband & I took a fantastic cruise around the Isle of Mull with Scott & Mary. It was so relaxing. All the meals were outstanding. Mary is a world class cook. Scott is a wealth of information about the wildlife & geological formations of the area. Tobermory is a beautiful harbor town, but the isolated harbors were moored in all the other nights were unbelievable! We loved seeing all the wildlife; especially the puffins, seals & otter. Neither of use realized that the volcanic rock formations on Staffa are also found around the southern part of Mull. Scott stayed up with me one night so I could view the Northern Lights! We had all kinds of weather: warm enough to eat on the deck to pelt snow. We hope to join them again."

This allowed us to enjoy walks, wildlife spotting and even an open water swim. There was never a point where we felt unsafe or even unwell as Scott navigated the waters to make sure all was calm. Scott and Mary manage Red Moon as a very well practiced and charming team who are a pleasure to spend time with. The whole thing is run as a bespoke experience for the guests. Nothing is too much trouble it seems, including providing delicious food. Weather permitting, the Western Isles are all yours to explore in style and we can't think of a better way to do so. Around the Small Isles
We cannot praise Scott and Mary highly enough. Their local knowledge led to us seeing many islands and places that were never on our radar previously. Mary’s cooking was excellent, and a special mention must be said of her shortbread…..light and delicious! Red Moon’s facilities were very good. Thankfully the sun shone and the seas were calm, leading us to see a lot of wildlife including dolphins, porpoises, seals (with pups), puffins and a beautiful stag on an very small island. Each of the islands visited had its own unique history, and again Scott’s knowledge enhanced our experience. We would certainly highly recommend Red Moon Cruises.

Southern Skye & the Small Isles
This was a wonderful and magical experience which totally exceeded our expectations - the size and comfort of the boat both above and below decks, the sense of history from the lovely old boat but with all mod cons, the sheer quality and variety of freshly prepared meals, the flexibility and choice of perfect locations for lunchtime and overnight stops, the ideal mix of friendly contact and privacy, the brilliant wildlife spotted expertly including dolphins and puffins, etc. Scott and Mary were the perfect hosts and are incredibly good at what they do. So much more personal and authentic than a multi-client cruise. Would do it all again in a heartbeat!

The Complete Small Isles
Scott and Mary have created a unique cruising experience in Red Moon, a 50 foot, 70-year-old former military craft and fishing vessel now converted to luxury cruiser. Red Moon is small enough to be chartered by a couple yet large enough to provide luxurious space and facilities. Combine this with professional management, an experienced skipper, a 5 star chef, the scenery and the wild life off the West Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and you create a world class experience. We have been privileged to enjoy this experience for 5 days in early September and, as well as being blessed with 2 days of glorious sunshine, we visited all of the Small Isles and Skye, lunched and overnighted in spectacular sheltered loch anchorages, saw dolphins, porpoises, minke whales and an eagle circling overhead. Scott and Mary work together as a well disciplined and managed team with Scott being principally responsible for the safety, navigation, and operation of the vessel and Mary producing 5 star meals from her small galley and assisting with docking and anchoring. However, as with any good team, these roles can be interchanged. This is a ‘high end’ experience but it is worth every penny …… and more. Whilst all of the food is locally sourced and absolutely superb please ensure that you put in a special request for Mary’s chocolate cake and her ‘fluffy’ scrambled eggs! This is definitely one to add to your ‘bucket list’.

A Golden cruise
We wanted a special experience to celebrate our Golden Wedding anniversary and Red Moon, Scott and Mary, gave us this in spades! We really appreciated your local knowledge in finding isolated parts of the area that would never otherwise have been accessible to us, with the daily opportunity for a wild walk thrown in. The care, consideration and creativity in catering for dietary requirements was outstanding as were the daily culinary delights. The wildlife sightings, so expertly spied and sought out, were a key element of the experience as was the opportunity to learn more about navigation and seamanship! Red Moon was a stable, amazingly comfortable and secure cocoon on the water and you both made the experience one which we hope to repeat in the future. Thank you Scott and Mary

"The holiday was all we could have hoped for, and more. You both made us feel so welcome that we very quickly felt at ease and relaxed into what was a very special few days away. Scotland is such a beautiful country, and it was a real treat to see it from the water. Anchoring off shore, was a particular delight. Although you had Covid guidelines in place, they never felt intrusive. Can’t sign off without commenting on the food.....each meal was an absolute delight.....all our favourite things, beautifully cooked and tastefully presented. You certainly listened to our food likes and dislikes!"
Sound of Mull, Lismore & Firth of Lorn Cruise
"This was our second cruise on Red Moon, following the first in 2017, but this time with our daughter and son-in-law. In 2017 we left having made two lovely new friends in Mary and Scott. We have kept in touch with them since then, and followed their cruises on their website with great interest. Our return in September 2020 was therefore a reunion of friends, not just another holiday booking. We are both 87 with increasing mobility problems, but Mary and Scott were very considerate in helping us overcome these, while at the same time helping the "new guests" to have a great time in their kayak. Accommodation on Red Moon is immaculate as ever, and improvements to seating in the wheelhouse and on the after-deck much appreciated. Food, as before, is one of the highlights of the magic of Red Moon. Rough seas in the Firth of Lorne on a short exciting crossing from Mull to mainland, which Scott wrote up in the ship's log as "very rough", showed off what an amazing sea boat Red Moon is. There were also some days with blue skies and glassy sea, and close encounters with white tailed sea eagles and a family of black goats who were very interested in the kayakers as they paddled close inshore on a sunny morning. B+B on board on the first night before the start of the cruise was a lovely touch. So thank you again, Mary, Scott, and Red Moon for another fantastic holiday."

"After our one-day cruise on Red Moon last year we were so impressed we booked for a week-long cruise around Mull this April. It didn't disappoint ! In fact we can't think of a better way to explore our beautiful coastline, enjoying the scenery and wildlife in luxury. Red Moon is extremely comfortable, beautifully fitted out and in Scott and Mary you have two excellent hosts to look after you.They are so friendly and helpful, organising trips ashore for us to see Fingal's cave,puffins on Lunga, Iona etc and Mary's cooking is outstanding. Highly recommended, especially if you want to see Scotland but avoid the busy roads and crowds in the tourist season - take to the sea instead !

Romantic Wedding Anniversary cruise

Well what can we say about this trip apart from WOW. We spent 4 nights with Scott and Mary on Red Moon and we had left the direction of travel to Scott to decide. Our only brief was remote and quiet. We met Red Moon on a small pontoon at Plockton. We were a little unsure how the dynamic would work with Scott and Mary and us on the boat as we didn’t know them. We are not massively sociable people we like to do things ourself on our own, but absolutely not problem it was great and worked well The boat was big enough to be by yourself if you wanted to be but still the right size to be exclusive. Scott mapped an amazing route first night in a very secluded area in Loch Hourn, we saw otters and a stag. Second day we sailed to the end of Loch Hourn and then headed towards the Isle of Rum to anchor for the night. Next day we headed to the Black Cullin on skye not before we saw 2 sightings of minky whales. Third night we headed towards Loch Nevis and spent another glorious evening on Red Moon and for our final journey headed back towards Plockton. So to say it was idyllic is an understatement.
Scott adapted his route depending on the weather so we had the best and calmest of seas, mirror calm a lot of the time. Mary's food was amazing, she cooked all the food fresh and is a truly amazing chef, breakfast homemade granola, with homemade compote and lovely bread from a local bakery and of course she would cook anything you wanted. Lunches were amazing too, one example was a beautiful Thai marinade beef salad and one of the dinners was a beautiful scallop green Thai curry. As well as venison meatball as canapés or a beautiful home made crab topping on spicy crackers. I could go on but food was stunning...if you want to experience it properly you have to go do it. Reach out to Mary and Scott via their website and talk to them, they are very approachable and just very genuine people who have a love for sailing and good food and happy to be based on one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. We will be finding a reason to come back."

Celebration cruise
We just spent 3 nights with Scott and Mary aboard the Red Moon sailing 140 nautical miles around parts of Skye, Knoydart and finishing with a night over looking Eilean Donan Castle arriving just as a bridal party crossed the famous bridge to it. The strains of bagpipe music wafting over the still waters in the dusk will stay with us for a long time. I can't say enough about the service and efficiency of Scott and Mary. They work so well together everything seems to be telepathic and is very unintrusive for guests. The food was wonderful and prepared in such a small space. The cabins are perfectly fitted out and very comfortable. Red Moon is full of character and a beautiful boat. Scott listened closely to our wishes and devised a lovely tour to fit those. He is a fund of local knowledge. Seeing this part of Scotland in all its moods was absolutely magnificent. The scenery was spectacular with the approach to Loch Scavaig and the background of the Cuillins particularly awesome. We saw a lot of wildlife too that we could not have seen otherwise. We were all so impressed by the organisation and the scenery where can we go to next I wonder....?

Wild Swim film shoot
"I spent 4 amazing nights aboard Red Moon cruises in Loch Hourn hosted by Mary and Scott who were extremely hospitable... I loved the fact the location we went to had no signal and although I spent most of my time working and filming for the Outdoor Swimming Society I loved the down time and connection to nature. On our trip I saw beautiful scenery, plenty of wildlife including both jumping and lazy seals as well as deer in groups and plenty of birds. Mary did wonders in the kitchen and coped extremely well with my fussy eating habits! Scott helped tremendously with the shoot and even helped us tender along side the swimmers. Although it was a working trip I came back on land feeling refreshed. Many thanks to Mary, Scott and Red Moon for the unforgettable experience!"

“We had a fabulous time on our four night stay on Red Moon. Mary and Scott are the perfect hosts. The bedroom is comfortable and all the bathroom facilities work really well, which is often a concern when you book a boat trip. The boat is easy to get around and spotlessly clean and well maintained. We found it easy to get on and off of the small boat to go ashore. Mary is a whizz in the kitchen and all the food she prepared, tailored to our preferences and appetite, was first class. You see things from a different perspective from a boat and each of the lochs Scott took us to had it's own beauty. In conclusion, we would thoroughly recommend Red Moon to anyone looking for a special experience.”

"Mary and Scott could not have been better hosts. The ship is immaculate and stayed that way throughout our cruise. Mary's cooking is delicious and really impressive considering the limited galley space. Scott handled the boat with skill despite significant storms. There was never a moment of trepidation. They willingly shared their knowledge about the area in which we sailed. They found serene spots for our anchorages and ferried us to lovely places for walks with the tender that is towed behind the Red Moon. Our sleeping quarters were comfortable and the bathroom was roomier than anticipated. Our cruise far exceeded our expectations and we recommend it without reservation".
Romantic evening cruise
"Booked an evening sailing for my girlfriend’s birthday for the two of us. Mary and Scott were super helpful from start to finish - the service was exceptional. The boat was enormous compared to what we were expecting and food was also another level! To my astonishment my request for sea wildlife and a beautiful sunset was not only met but exceeded! We saw porpoises, seals, dolphins swimming alongside the boat and what we now believe to be a basking shark. Incredible evening! Would strongly recommend to everyone!"
Sailing off Skye
"I had a wonderful 3-night cruise on Red Moon with the very capable Mary and Scott. As boaters in the past (we lived on a sailboat more than 25 years ago) we were excited to find Red Moon when we were planning our Scotland trip and jumped on the chance to spend a few days of our vacation to see part of the country from the water. Our cruise took us from Kyle of Lochalsh to Acairseid Mor (Big Harbor) on Rona, where we went ashore for a nice walk the next morning. Then back along the east shore of Raasay to an anchorage at the south end. The next day across the bay to Plockton. Beautiful scenery everywhere, cruising close to shore at times to see waterfalls and more. On the way back from Plockton to Kyle we had dolphins right alongside riding the bow wave. All this with good company, comfortable accommodations, and excellent food. Highly recommended, and we might go back ourselves!"
A great finale to the season
"A wonderful few days on Red Moon with Scott and Mary! This is perfect cruising around some of the most picturesque parts of the UK. The boat is first class and really comfortable and luxurious. Food is superb - definately top notch restaurant level (back on a diet now!!). Lots of wildlife to see - eagles, otters, porpoises, seals, deer and a multitude of seabirds. Very Peaceful and relaxing and pretty good weather for the time of year. Plenty of opportunities for walking in some of the most stunning countryside you could imagine. we are coming back next year for more of the same. Thanks Scott and Mary - you were the perfect hosts."

"We had a fabulous 2 night cruise with Scott and Mary on the Red Moon. The accomodation on board was really well laid out and very comfortable, I was particularly impressed with how good the shower was - a lot better than I've experienced in many hotels!
The food each day was fantastic and Mary made sure there was no chance of anyone ever being hungry!
We saw huge amounts of wildlife including a fantastic dolphin sighting which was really up close. The scenery was spectacular and we enjoyed the relaxation of knowing someone else was responsible for the speed and direction.
